How Complicated Can It Really Be to Operate a Law Firm?
Whether you've been operating your own firm for a while, or are just about to hang out your own shingle, we all know that starting or maintaining a law firm is not easy. This presentation will teach new and experienced attorneys tips and tricks on how to efficiently and professionally operate a law firm from a holistic point of view: From determining what you want to be doing and what you should be doing to how to accomplish both goals and more. We'll discuss the challenges of maintaining a successful firm (of any size) and provide practical solutions, including selecting and educating clients, creating simple databases, leveraging your time (and website!) to do more with less, and more.
Since 1985 Diane has practiced in the areas of bankruptcy, workout, foreclosure and trustee's sales. In 1991 Diane left a large firm to open a small, but efficient, firm comprised of her and her paralegal, Jay (who happens to be her husband).
Diane is a conservative and practical advocate for her clients. As a well known Phoenix bankruptcy attorney, she truly believes that “when you find your passion, going to work every day is a joy, not a job.” Her clients and fellow lawyers will attest to her passion and commitment to excellence. “Our reputation is built on our client’s trust that we can help them during a very difficult time. Awards: Of her numerous awards, the one she cherishes the most is her Lifetime Achievement Pro Bono Award, presented by Chief Bankruptcy Judge Daniel Collins and the Bankruptcy Section - “for a career of overwhelming and extraordinary pro bono services in establishing the Bankruptcy Court Self Help Center and leadership in the bankruptcy pro bono programs.”
CLE: Diane presented at hundreds of CLE programs over the last three decades. Topics included bankruptcy, foreclosure, real estate, law office management and client development.
Mentorship: Diane believes that everyone has an obligation to give back to their community and fellow professionals. She follows the guidance of her mentor, James Kahn, who always has an open-door policy. As part of her commitment to her fellow attorneys, Gary Stickell and Diane created the Arizona Consumer Bankruptcy Counsel, a safe place for consumer bankruptcy attorneys to hone their skills.
Since 2006 her peers have rated her as an “AV Preeminent” attorney and AV rating Preeminent Women Lawyers, AVVO top 10 as a superb lawyer (ratings by peers and clients), top rated by clients at Google+. Diane’s bookshelves are full of awards from the Governor, State Bar President, State Bar Foundation, Community Legal Services, plus many other organizations.
ANDREA WIMMER
Andrea practiced exclusively as debtors’ counsel in consumer Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy cases for more than 10 years before joining Upsolve, first as a contributing writer and editor and ultimately joining the team full time in August 2019. While in private practice, Andrea handled all bankruptcy matters from inception to case closure while also acting as managing attorney for her firm, Marco | Wimmer PLLC. Andrea has been a speaker at, among other events, ABI’s Southwest Bankruptcy Conference, Norton’s Bankruptcy Institute and the Arizona State Bar Convention. In 2017, she was selected as one of ABI's 40 under 40 honorees.
Andrea is a member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judge’s NextGen Class of 2016, recipient of ACBC's 2016 Special Appreciation Award, 2014 Member of the Year Award, and a Special Appreciation Award, as well as a Distinguished Service Award from the Arizona Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, where she served on the board from 2013 - 2018. She has published in NACBA’s Consumer Bankruptcy Journal and the State Bar of Arizona Bankruptcy Section Journal, and currently serves as treasurer of the Arizona Consumer Bankruptcy Counsel. She has also been a volunteer attorney with the Arizona Bankruptcy Court’s Self-Help Center.

About the Bankruptcy 101 Series
Learn the ins and outs of bankruptcy practice, including the court, the trustees, the code, and the clients.
This program is designed for attorneys who are new to Arizona consumer bankruptcy practice or those who simply want to refresh their knowledge.
It consists of 10 separate sessions scheduled on various dates from June 19 through September 18, 2020 (view topics and dates below). You can pick and choose which sessions you want to attend, or attend them all.
This program is open to the public so please invite your staff and colleagues. Registration is required. Materials will be provided here on or before the day prior to the event.
